After being released from a decade-long prison sentence, Beth is collaborating with her public defender to regain custody of her son, who has been legally under her sister’s care during her incarceration. Shortly thereafter, Beth unexpectedly teams up with Jess, a young and idealistic member of the public defense team, who is determined to champion Beth’s case, regardless of Beth’s initial reluctance.
