Gemma and Will are devastated by the tragic loss of their son in an accident. Gemma, overwhelmed with guilt, begins experiencing panic attacks that impair her vision, altering the audience’s perspective as well. Meanwhile, Will is haunted by what he believes to be his son’s voice calling out to him. In an attempt to escape their sorrow, Gemma proposes they accept Paul’s invitation to stay at his retreat in the Lake District. With the assistance of Paul, a former pharmacist, Gemma seeks relief from her panic attacks through medication. Will, frustrated by his inability to hear his son’s voice in their home, clashes with Paul and abruptly returns home. Left behind, Gemma becomes dependent on Paul, who seems to genuinely care for her well-being. As Gemma, Will, and Paul become entangled in a spiral of psychological and eventually physical violence, themes of love, grief, and human vulnerability come to the forefront.
