Shrek The Musical, featuring music by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, is an adaptation of the 2001 animated film by DreamWorks and William Steig’s 1990 book, Shrek! The production received eight Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical. After the national tour and West End shows concluded, Amazon.com announced on July 19, 2013, that a recorded version of the performance would be available for streaming starting September 17, 2013. On the same day, it was also released on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download. This version is a compilation of several live performances, along with a recording done without an audience. It features the original lead cast and various performers from the Broadway run, and it retains the song “Donkey Pot Pie” instead of its replacement, “Forever.”
