
Whitechapel is a British TV drama created by Carnival Films, centered around detectives in London’s Whitechapel area who tackle murder cases mimicking historical crimes. The debut series aired in the UK on 2 February 2009, featuring a hunt for a contemporary killer emulating Jack the Ripper’s infamous murders.
ITV ordered a second series in September 2009, shifting the focus to the notorious Kray twins. This series premiered on 11 October 2010.
In March 2011, ITV commissioned a third series, expanding it to six episodes structured as three two-part stories.
The first and second series were shown in the United States on BBC America, airing over six consecutive Wednesday nights starting 26 October 2011. The third series followed, beginning on Wednesday, 28 March 2012, also on BBC America.
On 24 September 2012, ITV announced a fourth series of Whitechapel, comprising six episodes, with the first episode airing on 4 September 2013.
