Transporter: The Series is an action-packed television show in English, originating from a collaboration between French and Canadian creators. It is a spin-off from the Transporter film series, which was the brainchild of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. The series is a joint production by France’s Atlantique Productions and Canada’s QVF Inc., with support from broadcasters such as M6, RTL, The Movie Network, Movie Central, and HBO/Cinemax.
The storyline extends the narrative of the film trilogy, focusing on the ongoing exploits of Frank Martin, a highly skilled freelance courier who transports anything, anywhere, without asking questions, as long as the price is right. Despite having three “unbreakable” rules, he often finds himself bending them. Chris Vance steps into the shoes of Frank, originally played by Jason Statham, while Andrea Osvárt joins the cast as a former CIA operative and Frank’s love interest, who coordinates his assignments. François Berléand returns from the films to reprise his role as Inspector Tarconi.
The series was commissioned for twelve episodes in 2012, with a total budget of $40 million, or €30 million. It first aired in Germany on RTL on October 11, 2012, followed by a French premiere on M6 on December 6. The show debuted in Canada on January 4, 2013, on HBO Canada and Super Écran 1, and began broadcasting in India on January 25, 2013, on the Sony PIX channel.
