A disciplined group of prep school students—Zack, Lawrence, Freddy, Summer, and Tomika—are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and aim higher under the guidance of Dewey Finn, a substitute teacher and struggling musician. Dewey employs the power of rock ‘n’ roll to motivate his students to create a clandestine band. Over the course of the academic year, these middle schoolers explore new relationships, uncover hidden abilities, and gain valuable insights into loyalty and friendship.
