“Saints & Strangers” delves deeper than the traditional narrative of Thanksgiving and the establishment of Plymouth Plantation, shedding light on the challenges faced by the 102 settlers who embarked on a journey aboard a chartered ship to an unknown land. Among them, half were religious separatists, often called pilgrims or saints, who left their previous lives in pursuit of religious freedom. The other half consisted of merchant adventurers, known as strangers, whose goals were more focused on material gain than spiritual pursuits. This divergence in values led to internal conflicts as they worked to build a new settlement, further complicated by their interactions with the local Native American tribes. The resulting tensions and negotiations among these groups led to trials of integration, faith, and compromise, which continue to shape the identity of the nation today.
