In England, American pathologist Dr. Richard Murray is still mourning the loss of his wife, Carol, who died in a car accident eight months prior. Struggling with guilt over an affair he had while Carol was away, he turns to whiskey, leading to frequent blackouts and memory lapses about his actions during his drinking bouts. At the same time, a serial killer is targeting women in the area, prompting the involvement of seasoned American detective DCI Collins and psychologist Frances Beale to assist the local authorities with the investigation. As Dr. Murray begins receiving messages from the afterlife, he seeks guidance and understanding from his friend, Father Randall.
