Inspired by the intense dislike that the mere mention of Toronto provokes among most Canadians, filmmakers Albert Nerenberg and Rob Spence document the journey of a character known as “Mister Toronto” as he embarks on a nationwide tour to promote appreciation for the city. Throughout their travels, the team encounters a variety of people, from those who describe themselves as “recovering Torontonians” to individuals who have sworn never to visit the city, which the United Nations has recognized as the most culturally diverse in the world. Is this deep-seated resentment simply a case of jealousy, or have the residents of this cosmopolitan hub genuinely done something to upset their disgruntled compatriots?
