Penned by Pulitzer Prize laureate Paula Vogel and brought to life by Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, with direction by Taichman, “Indecent” delves into the fervor and dedication required to produce theatre, even amidst the harshest of conditions. The narrative centers on a group of actors from the cast of Sholem Asch’s “God of Vengeance,” who braved significant risks to their lives and careers to stage a play they passionately believed in, during an era when art, freedom, and truth were under scrutiny. This tale is conveyed with both empathy and sincerity, enriched by vibrant theatrical elements, including lively songs and dances. The filming of “Indecent” was completed just before its final Broadway show in August, with eight high-definition cameras capturing every poignant moment at the Cort Theatre.
