Fifteen-year-old Ellis Whitman has been raised by a self-centered, New Age mother and a distant father, leading him to depend on an unusual caretaker: Goat Man, a sage who raises goats and cultivates marijuana. When Ellis opts to swap his unconventional desert upbringing for the rigid environment of an East Coast prep school, he faces significant changes, though not in the expected ways. Despite frequently being under the influence, Ellis is exceptionally intelligent and adept, easily excelling in academics and track. As the school year unfolds, it is his interactions with the adults around him that truly challenge him, pushing him to reconsider his views on responsibility and trust.
