Philip Van Horn, who departed from his hometown years ago in pursuit of a career as a Hollywood actor, returns for a visit despite not achieving any success in the industry. Upon his arrival, the townspeople treat him as if he were a famous celebrity and movie star. He takes advantage of this newfound status to captivate Dorothy, the woman he and many others admired during their school days, whose life has since become monotonous and dull.
