In the final year of World War II, Eugene joins the US Army and is dispatched to Biloxi, Mississippi for basic training. There, he finds himself sharing quarters with a diverse group of soldiers, all while dealing with the unpredictable behavior of a drill sergeant who is mentally unstable.
