Robgen Industries has introduced its latest security innovation, the “J Series Automatic,” an android specifically engineered to shield humans from violent incidents. One evening, a unit named J269 witnesses a Robgen executive attempting to assault a female employee, Nora Rochester. In an effort to prevent the crime, J269 accidentally kills the executive. Following this, J269 contacts Goddard Marx, his creator and a chairman at Robgen, to report the situation. Marx instructs the android to remain with Rochester until assistance arrives, but secretly plans to cover up the scandal by dispatching mercenaries to eliminate both J269 and Rochester. Consequently, the pair find themselves on the run from a paramilitary hit squad.
