Insurance investigator Abraham Holt journeys to a small town in rural Minnesota to probe a peculiar insurance claim resulting from a devastating car crash. As Holt inspects the accident site, everything appears suspiciously flawless. During his interviews with Isold McBride and her dubious husband, Fred, who are the financially struggling recipients of a substantial, newly activated life insurance policy, Holt starts to sense that something is not quite right.
