When her brother Bobby comes back from World War II with severe psychological trauma, Anna faces the challenge of dealing with her parents, who refuse to recognize Bobby’s presence and have him committed to a mental institution. Following Bobby’s unexpected death, Anna starts to doubt her own mental stability. Her situation worsens due to the behavior of her gangster boyfriend, Billy, leading her to believe that undergoing a lobotomy is the only path to her “recovery.”
