Under a discriminatory government initiative referred to as the Sixties Scoop, Bezhig Little Bird is taken from her family in Long Pine Reserve, Saskatchewan, and placed with a Jewish family in Montréal when she is just five years old, where she is given the name Esther Rosenblum. Now in her twenties, Bezhig yearns to reconnect with her original family and is prepared to give up everything to reunite with them.
