The story follows Richard Cypher, a woodsman who learns that his destiny is to become a prophesied hero and protector of the downtrodden. Accompanied by Kahlan, an enigmatic woman, and Zedd, a sagacious old wizard, Richard is tasked with thwarting a merciless and power-hungry despot from releasing an age-old malevolence and subjugating the world.
