Einar and Bjørn depart for a fishing excursion, leaving Lene alone on the island. Unexpectedly, her ex-lover Gaute arrives and, in a drunken state, ends up sleeping in the double bed. Lene takes the couch for the night and is awakened when the men return. Attempting to rouse Gaute, she makes a shocking discovery: he has passed away.
